Soft Tissue and Myofascial Release

Myofascial or Soft Tissue Release Therapy (MRT) is a manual treatment technique for injuries to the muscles, nerves, tendons, and fascia surrounding muscle. The goal is to restore movement of the tissues and provide more movement to the muscles and nerves.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue (IASTT) is a technique in which the practitioner uses a stainless steel instrument to treat in a similar fashion as they would their own hands. New research shows that by using different types of strokes, edges, pressure, and frequency the practitioner can effectively treat nerves, muscles, fascia, and tendons. Positive effects that are usually seen are pain reduction, a reduced tone in overactive muscles, improved blood flow, reduced edema of nerves, and restoration of impaired function between nerves and muscles.
