Castor oil has been used topically for centuries to help remedy certain ailments and conditions.
Castor oil comes from the castor bean seed, and it has been shown to increase circulation & promote elimination & detoxification pathways, and healing of tissues and organs under the skin.
It also has a supportive effect in the lymphatic system which can help to boost immune function, improve digestion, and reduce swelling & inflammation.
Because this oil is so potent and absorbed really well topically, it can be used for a variety of different reasons.
Some of these include:
Increase lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling & inflammation
Support liver detoxification
Support adequate bowel movements
Support the immune system
Menstrual irregularities, fibroids & cysts
Among others!
How to do it:
Apply a thin layer of castor oil to the area of concern (for example, over the liver for enhanced detoxification)
Cover with a white, unbleached towel
Apply heat over top of the castor oil pack
Sit and relax for about 30-40 minutes
Alternatively, you can saturate a white, unbleached flannel shirt with the castor oil and apply it topically, then follow steps 2-4
You can store this castor oil pack in a glass jar & reuse
Make sure to wipe the castor oil off afterward or shower, it is sticky and can stain & darken clothes.
Some cautions of using castor oil heat packs include:
Avoid castor oil heat packs over the abdomen during menstruation, as it can increase bleeding
Do not apply castor oil heat packs during pregnancy
Do not apply over open wounds
